About the monsters in Monster Hunter Outlanders

Monster Hunter Outlanders brings classic monsters from the series to Aesoland, an open world split into the Giant Tree region and the Scorching Sands region. You meet them in story order: Great Jagras and Kulu-Ya-Ku in the Outlands, Pukei-Pukei in the Mud Swamp, Jyuratodus at the Sand Oasis, then Rathian, Rathalos and Diablos as the world opens up. Elder Dragons such as Kushala Daora and Nergigante arrive late, and Ruger Aidal is the flagship Elder Dragon created for this game.

Many monsters also have a Radiant form, charged with Radiantite. Radiant forms hit harder, sometimes change weakness or habitat, and drop the materials for Radiant armor, whose set bonuses differ from the base set. Several Radiant forms only appear in monster dens. The weakness chart lists base and Radiant forms side by side.

How the Monster Hunter Outlanders monster pages are built

Names, classes and descriptions for the monsters shown on the official website come from that site. Weaknesses and habitats come from the in-game Hunter's Notes as read by two Japanese guides on the live Japan server; when both agree we mark the value confirmed. English area names are our translations, because the English client may word them differently; each area also shows the Japanese name so you can match it. Where to find each monster on the map: Great Jagras (Outlands and Mud Swamp); Kulu-Ya-Ku (Outlands, Mud Swamp and Sand Oasis); Pukei-Pukei (Outlands, Mud Swamp, Misty Forest and Sand Oasis), and the rest on each page and the materials map.

Using monster armor

Armor sets in Monster Hunter Outlanders give a bonus at two pieces, so you mix sets rather than wear one full set. The early favourite is two Kulu-Ya-Ku pieces for an attack bonus at full health; Tzitzi-Ya-Ku and Odogaron reward Perfect Evades. Weapon-specific picks are on the weapon build pages.
